Oil Spill Class Action Lawsuits

BP as well as several other companies have been named in oil spill class action lawsuits to date.  Just two weeks after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, suits have been filed against BP, formerly known as British Petroleum, as well as Halliburton Energy, Transocean LTD, and Cameron International Corporation.  Transocean owns the Deepwater Horizon, and Cameron manufactured a device which was supposed to prevent blow outs such as this.  Halliburton was working on the rig at the time of the explosion.  Officials are still trying to determine the cause of the explosion.

In the meantime, private individuals and communities  as well as businesses are filing oil spill class action lawsuits against these companies, for several reasons.  Loss of income, property damage, and increased use of public services are just some of the claims in the current oil spill class action lawsuits.

Lawsuits allege  negligence and wanton misconduct on the part of BP and Halliburton.  A group of attorneys have filed an oil spill class action lawsuit in Florida alleging willful misconduct and  gross negligence in the actual design of the rig, as well as in its construction and operation, not to mention the response to the explosion by BP and Halliburton.
