Avandia Lawsuits

Avandia Lawsuits for the Diabetes Drug

Avandia is a diabetes drug used to treat Type 2 Diabetes.  Also known as rosiglitazone, this drug is said to be linked to hundreds of heart attacks and heart failures each month.  In government documents uncovered by the New York Times this month, the Fed recommend removing the drug from the market.

GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of this controversial drug, may face Avandia lawsuits soon.  There’s even a safer alternative, called Actos.  According to a confidential government report, if all persons taking Avandia took Actos instead, 500 heart attacks and 300 heart failures each month would be avoided.

Avandia is linked to over three hundred deaths in just the last three months of 2009.  GlaxoSmithKline continues to assert that the scientific evidence does not support any links between Avandia and heart attacks.  This is a very good way to set yourself up for some Avandia lawsuits, if you look at the general pattern of drug company lawsuits in the past.

There is currently a Senate investigation that has concluded GlaxoSmithKline should have warned users about the serious Avandia side effects.  The debate has been ongoing for years, but the new Senate investigation has brought the topic to the forefront this week.
